Pittsburgh Pride Wins National Championship
Pittsburgh Pride teams went to the Nationals in Kalahari. Dozens of teams from surrounding states competed for the title "National Champion". Pittsburgh Pride takes home the title.
Pittsburgh Pride Youth One cheer team spent hours and hours preparing for all the competitions. They have had many local competitions and they won first or second place in all of the competitions. “All summer we had cheer camp to learn our stunts and dances,” said Chelsea Lawrence. The team practiced in Pittsburgh Pride Gym which is right outside of Peters Township. The team practiced every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. The team's competitions were on the weekends.

Every weekend the team went to different local colleges like Slippery Rock University, University of Pittsburgh, and IUP. Since the team did well in local competitions they moved on in the Nationals. Last weekend, the nationals held in Sandusky, Ohio at the Kalahari Convention Center. Many All-star squads entered into the competition. “It was exciting watching all the different squads perform because they were all different age groups and all the dances were different,” said Patty Lawrence. Teams came from all over the New England region.

Each team performed twice, once on Saturday and once on Sunday. The Saturday performance was just to show the judges the team’s routine. On Sunday, the routine was performed to show who deserved to win national championship. “The coaches said that all scores for the teams were really close in our division,” said Lia Parks.
The tension was on, each team wanted to make it to the top and be titled national champions. The squads had many different warm ups they did to make them perform better. “I know our team was going to get first because the judges told me that we were 8 points ahead on Saturday,” said Coach Kyle.

The teams performed on Sunday. Pride performed around 2 pm. They made zero mistakes in their whole routine. At 2:45 pm the award ceremony was held. Each team sat on the stage. Each team was announced with there scores and placements. Pittsburgh Pride Youth One was announced last which meant they were in first place. Pittsburgh Pride Youth one was announced National Champions!
